CLEP Study Guide
Some students find it useful to combine the use of a CLEP study guide with other methods of preparation. These methods include practice questions, textbooks, class notes, and other resources. The CLEP study guide is a great blueprint for what you need to know, but sometimes it makes sense to explore additional sources of information. For instance, many students who are trying to place out of a subject they took in high school simply use their textbook and class notes. If you plan to do this, however, be sure the content covered by your course materials is the same as the content covered by the exam. You can use your CLEP study guide as a reference here. Also, if you are going to rely on your class notes, be sure they are of sufficient quality. If you missed some of the school year due to illness or travel, you need to fill in those holes in your notes.
Again, a comprehensive CLEP study guide will help you identify any weak areas in your class notes. Once you have assembled a good reference base, determine your study strategy by answering some practice questions. A set of realistic practice questions will give you an idea of the level of difficulty you will encounter on the real test. Also, practice questions indicate the types of facts and ideas likely to appeal to CLEP test-makers. Once you obtain this information, your use of the CLEP study guide will be significantly more productive.
